Subject: What Your Electrician Should Know About Hum, Buzz and Ground Loops
Presenter: Bill Whitlock, President – Jensen Transformers
When the audio system hums or buzzes, the usual suspect (or easiest suspect) is the electrician. While they sometimes make mistakes, the vast majority of noise problems occur in systems where the AC wiring is fully code compliant. Although “Sparky” may not understand the underlying physics and circuit theory, there are several options that can have an amazing effect on hum and buzz. These same techniques are also a cure for nagging digital problems as well.
Bill will explain the “dirty little secrets” of ground loops and premises wiring. He will relate some actual case histories where long standing noise problems were quickly solved by electricians once they were pointed in the right direction.
For those who do not know Bill, he is an AES Life Fellow and a major contributor to the AES48-2005, the standard on interconnections, grounding and EMC. He is also a Life Senior of the IEEE and holds several patents. Bill has authored three chapters in Glen Ballou’s “Handbook of Sound Engineers” and has taught thousands at trade show classes and college lectures.
Join us, so that you will have a better understanding of this vital subject, and find out why at last year’s InfoComm, students voted Bill “Technical Instructor of the Year”. Rarely do you find one who is both well informed on the subject as well as able to make it understood by others.
This is a treat, don’t miss it.
Please try to join us. Meal cost is $15.
JOIN US FOR INTERESTING CONVERSATION, GOOD FELLOWSHIP, A GOOD MEAL, INFORMATION OF IMPORTANCE TO OUR RESPECTIVE ORGANIZATIONS AND A 1/2 POINT TOWARDS RE-CERTIFICATION.
